EDD: New regs will require disability insurance certifications to be filed electronically

March 20, 2025

Following recent changes to Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations (Section 2706-4), medical providers will be required to file California State Disability Insurance (SDI) medical certifications electronically. The California Employment Development Department (EDD) has indicated that it is in the process of incorporating this new change into its systems. Until that process is complete, physicians should continue to submit SDI documents as usual.

The California Medical Association will publish an update once the EDD systems have been updated. EDD will also publish regular updates on its website and through its newsletters, social media and other outreach efforts.

For more information on the physician role in certifying SDI claims, please visit edd.ca.gov/disability.
