The California Medical Association (CMA) is proud to announce the winners of its 2024 CMA Continuing Medical Education (CME) Provider Awards. These awards recognize and honor the outstanding work being done by your CME colleagues. Congratulations to our winners!

Outstanding CME Professional: Kenneth Pickering, Psy.D.

  • Pickering has been a key figure in the Orange County Health Care Agency's CME program for over 15 years, serving as CME coordinator for 12+ years. He has guided the program through leadership changes, fostered collaboration with various departments and community partners, and ensured alignment with evolving CME criteria. His efforts have consistently improved the program's effectiveness and compliance with each renewal cycle.

Outstanding CME Leadership: Greg Joy, M.D.

  • Marshall Medical Center nominated Dr. Joy in recognition of his steadfast support of its CME program. He was a dedicated volunteer who selflessly donated hundreds of hours of his own time to contribute to the program's success. As a retired surgeon and former CMA surveyor, his experience and expertise were instrumental to the growth of Marshall’s CME program.

Innovation in CME: “Pediatric Fundamental Critical Care Support” by TPMG Physician Education

  • “Pediatric Fundamental Critical Care Support” is a two-day course presented to Kaiser Permanente health care professionals in Northern California that trains emergency/hospital teams to manage critically ill children. It uses high-fidelity simulations to teach team dynamics and communication. Aimed at emergency department and pediatric physicians, nurses, and respiratory therapists, this course combines pre-work, lectures, skill stations and simulations. Objectives include recognizing high-risk patients, proper evaluation/stabilization, effective team leadership and using KP-specific tools. The course's focus on team training in simulated critical situations sets it apart.

If your organization is doing great work, make sure to recognize them. Nominations for the 2025 CMA CME Provider Awards will open later this year, with a submission deadline of March 28, 2025. It is never too early to apply!
