The Medical Board of California licensure application for physicians and surgeons, including postgraduate training licensees, may inadvertently discourage physicians from seeking mental health services. The process perpetuates stigma around mental health and can exacerbate issues of burnout and depression within the medical community.

The California Medical Association is sponsoring Assembly Bill 2164, championed by Assemblymember Marc Berman, which seeks to remove this barrier by eliminating the obligation for physicians to unnecessarily disclose their mental health conditions.

Contact your legislator TODAY and consider sharing your personal experiences or stories about the importance of seeking mental health care. Together, we can ensure that physicians have the support they need to thrive and provide the best care for their patients.
