In 2023, Prime Therapeutics acquired Magellan Rx, necessitating the migration of Medi-Cal Rx applications to Prime Therapeutics' platforms. As part of this migration effort, there will be a series of transitions for Medi-Cal Rx users.

Email Domain Changing Monday, March 25

On Monday, March 25, 2024, at 12 a.m., all Magellan Medi-Cal Rx email addresses will transition to the Prime Therapeutics domain @primetherapeutics.com. For example, the new Medi-Cal Rx Education and Outreach inbox will be MediCalRxEducationOutreach@primetherapeutics.com.

Magellan's individual email addresses will also transition to @primetherapeutics.com and new usernames will vary. Practices should refer to the automatic reply messages to ensure accuracy of individual email addresses. Please note that you should utilize the existing email address magellanhealth.com email addresses through March 24, 2024.

Individual and shared Medi-Cal Rx mailbox email domains ending in @dhcs.ca.gov are not impacted by this transition.

Meetings and Webinars

Medi-Cal Rx meetings will now be hosted on the Microsoft Teams platform and new links will be provided as applicable. Beginning March 29, 2024, the Medi-Cal Rx Reinstatement Webinar that is held on Fridays at 12 p.m. will utilize the new link: Medi-Cal Rx Reinstatement Webinar.

Medi-Cal Rx prior authorization submission outage tonight

As part of the migration, there is a planned outage on Friday, March 22, 2024, during which prior authorization request submission will be unavailable. Pharmacy providers and prescribers will not be able to submit prior authorization requests via any submission channel during the outage, which will start at 11 p.m. and is anticipated to last until 5 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) encourages pharmacy providers to submit claims under the Emergency Fill dispensing policy when appropriate to ensure patients can access needed medications.

Prior authorization requests can resume after Medi-Cal Rx's system function has been restored. Refer to the Medi-Cal Rx System Status page for updates regarding the outage and system status.

Pharmacy claims may still be submitted during this planned outage.
