California Medical Association (CMA) Senior Vice President of Government Relations Stuart Thompson has published CMA’s annual Legislative Wrap-Up, which provides an inside look at what went down the 2023 legislative session.
The theme for this year’s report – A Year of Change and Transition – touches on the recent changes in leadership in both the Assembly and the Senate as well as the influx of dozens of new lawmakers into the Legislature from the most recent election cycle.
The wrap up highlights CMA’s accomplishments and achievements, and showcases CMA’s ability to advocate for the physicians and patients of California. This year, CMA successfully advocated for the largest influx of Medi-Cal dollars California has ever invested in the program and obtained legislative victories in reducing administrative burdens, defeating scope of practice infringements, securing protections for reproductive health care providers, and many other areas affecting the practice of medicine.
For more information on CMA’s many successes and the numerous bills CMA followed this session, see CMA’s 2023 Legislative Wrap Up at cmadocs.org/legwrap2023.
