Public Payors Advocacy
Due to a confluence of statutory payment cuts, lack of inflationary updates, significant administrative burdens and fiscal uncertainties physician practices face related to the pandemic, the Medicare payment system is on an unsustainable path.
The American Medical Association (AMA) is hosting a free webinar on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at 10 a.m. Central time that will dig deeper into some of the causes of the current systemic issues and chart a path forward.
Hosted by Sandra Fryhofer, M.D., chair of the AMA Board of Trustees, the webinar will review AMA’s new Medicare payment reform principles—outlined in Characteristics of a Rational Medicare Physician Payment System—which provide a framework to reshape the Medicare payment system so that it works better for patients and physicians, and put an end to the annual advocacy exercise of stopping impending payment cuts.
The California Medical Association is one of 120 organizations that have endorsed these reform principles. The AMA framework represents the first stage in medicine’s effort to develop and propose substantial changes to the payment system to improve the financial viability of physician practices and ease its administrative burdens.
