State lifts indoor mask mandate for unvaccinated; Masks still required in health care settings for all

March 08, 2022

Effective March 1, 2022, masks are no longer required for unvaccinated individuals in California, but continue to be strongly recommended for all individuals regardless of vaccinations status in most indoor settings. The mask mandate for schools will also expire at 11:59 pm this Friday, March 11, 2022.

Masks still do continue to be required for everyone in high transmission settings, including health care settings, long-term care facilities, public transit, emergency shelters, homeless shelters and correctional facilities.

As always, local jurisdictions may have additional requirements beyond the state guidance. More information is available in the updated state guidance for face coverings.
