Physicians for a Healthy California (PHC) President and CEO, Lupe Alonzo-Diaz, has been named the chair of the Hospital Supplier Diversity Commission, which advises and provides recommendations on the best methods to increase procurement with diverse suppliers within the hospital industry.
Established by the California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI), HSDC also promotes and provides outreach to hospitals that are actively engaged in supplier diversity issues.
Alonzo-Diaz leads HSDC towards expanding equitable access to health care for all Californians—ensuring every community has the health workforce they need, safe and reliable health care facilities, and health information that can help make care more effective and affordable.
Part of HSDC’s mission is to collect and post hospital supplier diversity reports explaining the hospital’s supplier diversity statement and procurement efforts regarding certified minority, women, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and disabled veteran business enterprises.
Alonzo-Diaz is also the Vice President of Continuing Medical Education (CME) for the California Medical Association (CMA). Previously, she served in various leadership roles at the Department of State Hospitals and the Department of Health Care Access and Information, formerly known as Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development. Her commitment to health equity includes working for the Latino Coalition for a Healthy California, Children’s Advocacy Institute and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund.
