The application deadline for the current cycle of the Steven M. Thompson Loan Repayment Program (STLRP) has been extended to December 31, 2021. Award recipients receive up to $105,000 to repay educational loans in exchange for a three-year service commitment in a medically-underserved area of the state. STLRP increases the number of licensed physicians and surgeons providing direct patient care in a qualified facility in California.

The program was created in 2002 through legislation sponsored by the California Medical Association.
