California Medical Association (CMA) President Robert E. Wailes, M.D., issued the following statement supporting Assemblymember Dr. Akilah Weber's planned legislation on physician licensing:

"The California Medical Association applauds Assemblymember Akilah Weber, M.D., for her leadership in introducing a bill that will protect patients from criminal sexual misconduct and ensure that any physician who violates a patient’s trust and the sanctity of the physician-patient relationship through such heinous criminal behavior has no place in the medical profession.

"We stand strongly with Assemblymember Weber in her efforts to reform the licensing process so that physicians who so flagrantly abandon the integrity of the profession are barred from ever practicing medicine in the state of California again."
