CMA issues statement in response to LAUSD vaccine mandate

September 09, 2021

CMA President Peter N. Bretan, Jr., M.D., issued the following statement in response to the Los Angeles Unified School District decision to require vaccines for all eligible students, teachers and school employees:

"The Los Angeles Unified School District took a bold and important step today toward protecting public health, and the health of students, teachers and school employees. Requiring COVID vaccines for all eligible students is the best way to keep our schools safe and ensure that campuses remain open for in-person education, which is so critical for our children’s development. The physicians of the California Medical Association applaud LAUSD for their leadership, and we hope that other school districts and businesses will follow suit to help bring this disease under control."
