DCA issues new licensing waivers for physicians

October 13, 2020

The California Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) has issued two significant new waivers that impact physicians.

Residents who completed at least 36 months of approved postgraduate training outside of California and were enrolled in an approved postgraduate training program in California on July 1, 2020, now have until December 31, 2020, obtain their postgraduate training license. (Typically, such individuals would only have 90 days to obtain their license.)

Physicians and surgeons whose licensing applications were deemed abandoned between March 31 and November 20, 2020, due to a failure to pass or retake Step 3 of the United States Medical Licensing Examination, now have 18 months from the date of written notification by the Medical Board of California to pass or retake the examination.

You can read the full waivers and see a list of current waivers on the DCA website.
