Provider relief expected soon for specialties without heavy Medicare caseloads

June 02, 2020

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is beta testing a new portal to facilitate distribution of provider relief funds to physicians who were not eligible for the first two traunches. This would include physicians and specialties who do not have a Medicare-heavy caseload, such as Medicaid providers, pediatricians, obstetricians, allergists and psychiatrists.

Physicians who believe they should have received phase 2 funding, but did not, will also be able to apply for additional money through this portal. We do not yet know what the funding formula will be for this third round of provider relief.

The American Medical Association (AMA) is beta testing the portal next week, and if all goes well HHS could be ready to distribute additional funds in two weeks.

The California Medical Association will be closely monitoring the situation and will provide additional details as they are available.
