The Immunization Action Coalition is offering four free workshops in California to help physicians improve adult immunization rates while streamlining their practices. This workshop, “Take a Stand™: Use Standing Orders to Improve Adult Immunization Rates,” is a one-stop shop to help you easily implement standing orders (“standardized procedures”) for adult immunizations in your practice.
The workshops will be held on January 19 in San Francisco, January 20 in Sacramento, January 22 in Los Angeles and January 23 in San Diego.
Standing orders authorize nurses and other appropriately trained health care personnel, where allowed by state law, to assess a patient’s immunization status and administer vaccinations according to a standardized protocol.
Strong evidence supports the use of standing orders programs to improve immunization rates in the adult population; their use is also recommended by numerous public health organizations, federal agencies and provider associations. Unfortunately, standing orders are not being utilized for adult immunizations. Data suggest that adoption of this important intervention is inhibited by poor understanding of the benefits of standing orders programs and a perception that they are difficult to implement. Most physicians and their practice staff currently do not have the information and training they need to overcome these barriers.
The unique Take a Stand™ program is taught by national experts who will provide attendees with access to evidence-based tools, model standing orders and a step-by-step guide for continually improving standing orders programs and enhancing the quality of patient care. Those attending the program will also be provided with a year of free direct support in the implementation of standing orders.
