Palmetto GBA, California's Medicare contractor, has released the Comparative Billing Reports (CBRs) for evaluation and management (E/M) services billed between January and June 2012.

The reports allow individual physicians to review their billing patterns for various codes and procedures as compared to the national average for physicians in their jurisdiction with the same specialty. These comparative studies are designed to help providers review their coding and billing practices and utilization patterns with an eye on taking proactive compliance measures.
