California Medical Association (CMA) President Peter N. Bretan, M.D., issued the following statement in response to Governor Gavin Newsom's new cost containment proposals in the California state budget:

"We applaud Gov. Newsom for making health care affordability and accessibility top policy priorities for his administration. Increasing health care costs are limiting access to quality care for millions of Californians. The governor is focused on reversing trends in the health care industry that have driven up costs for patients, and we look forward to working with the administration on reforms that will make care more affordable and accessible for all Californians."
